Cylinder Identification |
Cylinder & its color:
SIGAS uses a unique color paint code to identify Specialty Gas cylinders. Below are the highlights of our cylinder packaging and color code.
- All Mixture gas cylinders bodies are painted uniformly lilac blue and covered with a protective plastic net.
- A color coded shoulder indicates the product nature (e.g. Red for flammable mixture, Yellow for Toxic, Pure Orange
for corrosive, and white for Inert) All High Purity / Carrier Gases cylinder bodies are painted with already existing color code of SIGAS ( Green for O2) with 2” band painted Lilac Blue below the shoulder of cylinder (e.g. one 2” band for Research grade, two 2” band for Instrument/Carrier grade and three 2” band for UHP/Zero Grade.

Markings:
- Cylinder Specification:
- DOT – Department of Transportation which is a regulatory body that governs the transportation of cylinders.
- Type of material of construction of cylinders (e.g. 3AA).
- Service or working pressure in pound per square inch (i.e. psi)
- Cylinder Serial Number:
- The letter “SG” precedes the serial number of Specialty Gas cylinders.
- Date of Manufacture:
- The date of manufacture of cylinder (month – year) is punched on cylinder.
- Date of Hydrostatic test:
- The date of hydrostatic test (month-year) is punched on cylinder.
- Neck Ring Identification:
- A cylinder neck ring is permanently fixed below the base of the valve.
- Cylinder Tare Weight & water capacity of cylinder:
- TW indicates the tare weight of the cylinders which is punched on cylinder.
- Water capacity of the cylinder is punched for identification of size of cylinder.
